You are correct that the bill would eliminate the right of an employer to DEMAND an NLRB election (which generally takes many months). If workers want a secret ballot election they will not be prohibited by the bill. What exactly is undemocratic about a majority of workers signing a petition or cards demanding recognition for their union from their employer? Also, the bill does not suddenly make it legal for union supporters to illegally coerce their coworkers. However, it does provide for increased expedited penalties for employers who violate workers rights. Currently, the law provides a mere wrist slap (which can take months and months to effect) for companies who threaten or fire employees for unionizing. By the time violations come before the board the unions have typically already been crushed by companies terrorizing their workers. Surveys show that most U.S. workers want union representation. The current laws and NLRB are set up to allow companies to crush worker’s efforts to unionize.
